How to Spend an Autumn Weekend in Taipei

For a memorable Taipei autumn staycation, combine good food with the city's after-dark culture. Stay at ILLUME TAIPEI and enjoy the Double Delight Dine & Stay package, explore the 2026 Taipei Night Market Festival, then discover live performances during the 2026 Taipei Jazz Festival. Both city events are underway in September, making autumn an inviting time for a food-and-music weekend in Taipei.

Autumn in Taipei, from Daylight to After Dark

Autumn brings a softer pace to Taipei. The afternoon light settles gently across the city, while after sunset, glowing storefronts, night market stalls and music venues reveal another side of the capital. A weekend staycation lets you experience both rhythms without rushing—leaving room for a leisurely meal, spontaneous discoveries and an evening shaped by the sounds of the city.

Set in Songshan District, ILLUME TAIPEI offers a comfortable starting point for this autumn journey. Settle into your room, enjoy a meal at Sunny Buffet, then step outside and allow Taipei to shape the rest of the evening.

A Citywide Celebration of Night Market Food

Running from 14 May to 31 October 2026, the 2026 Taipei Night Market Festival brings together 17 night markets under the theme “Tonight, Deal the Cards. Let the Flavours Begin.” This year’s programme transforms 52 selected “Divine Eats” into a deck of food-inspired playing cards, turning Taipei’s night markets into a playful map for culinary discovery.

The festival also introduces night-market-themed EasyCards and a special collaboration that invites visitors to discover limited food creations at participating stalls. Rather than simply choosing one famous snack, the experience offers another way to taste your way through Taipei’s diverse night market culture.

Make Raohe Street Night Market Part of Your Evening

For guests staying in Songshan District, Raohe Street Night Market makes an appealing addition to an evening of local exploration. Wander beneath its illuminated signs and follow your appetite from savoury bites to traditional sweets, discovering a distinctly Taipei rhythm along the way.

Raohe Street Night Market is also participating in the 2026 Taipei Night Market Festival, with stalls ranging from gua bao and grilled corn to handmade tofu pudding and other local favourites. It is an easy way to add a more spontaneous flavour to your autumn staycation—choose what catches your eye, share a few dishes and let the evening unfold one bite at a time.

Let Jazz Set the Rhythm for Your Taipei Night

Taipei Jazz Festival Celebrates Its 20th Year

Autumn 2026 also marks a milestone for the Taipei Jazz Festival. Celebrating its 20th year, the festival runs from 04 September to 11 October and fills Taipei with five weeks of performances, bringing together local musicians and international artists.

This year’s “Jazz Right” programme also pays tribute to the centenary years of jazz legends Miles Davis and John Coltrane, adding a sense of history to a festival that continues to evolve with the city around it.

Jazz Across the City

The festival is not confined to a single stage. “Jazz Right Here” brings performances into 12 jazz venues across Taipei from 06 September to 01 October, while the “Jazz Right Party” series carries live music into outdoor cultural spaces. The programme eventually builds towards three days of performances at Taipei Music Center from 09 to 11 October.

This citywide format makes jazz particularly suited to a weekend staycation. Choose a performance that fits your evening, explore a different neighbourhood and discover Taipei through sound as well as sight. As twilight settles across the streets, the city takes on a different tempo—one shaped by conversation, improvisation and music lingering into the night.
